Oh what a ride it has been! Aloha everyone! It is with mixed emotions that I share with you, that the upcoming Winter issue of Kama'aina will be our last printed issue.
Over the past few months, my family and I have had many conversations about the future of Kama'aina Magazine, and this decision was not an easy one to make. As you can imagine, the pandemic has made things difficult for so many local and national publications to thrive, and as a free, local community publication, the past year and a half has definitely been a challenge. Though I still love what I do, I have followed my heart in every step of this journey, and my heart tells me that it's time to end this chapter and see where our path will lead to next.
It has truly been a dream come true for me to be able to do what I love for the past 10 years, to connect not only my daughters, but the Las Vegas Hawaiian community, with our island home and each other.
I started the magazine with a goal of publishing four issues over one year. What a blessing it has been to share over 250 stories in the 40 issues we will have published over 10 years, come December.
I am so grateful to everyone who has helped to put each and every issue together. It's been a lot of hard work, but boy did we have fun! To our loyal advertisers, most of which are small business owners just like myself, we couldn't have come this far without you. Mahalo also to our nationwide subscribers, our distribution locations, our social media followers, supporters, and our devoted readers. You have all been an important and integral part of our success since 2012.
Though Kama'aina will no longer be available in print, we hope the stories we have shared over the years will continue to inspire those who have read them. For now, our website and social media channels will still be business as usual (because we still have one fabulous final issue coming in December!) but we will also take some time this winter to explore other opportunities and ways that we can continue to bring joy to our community.
Mahalo for making Kama'aina Magazine a part of your lives, and for the role you have played in this amazing 10 year journey! From the bottom of my heart... Mahalo for the time of my life!
With Appreciation & Aloha,
Jill Munemitsu
Owner, Kama'aina Magazine
